Cellulite

What you need to know

Found predominantly in the fairer sex, this unsightly dimpling of the skin has multiple non-invasive and minimally-invasive treatments to help smoothen out your contours.

Non-surgical fat reduction has proven to be a safe and effective alternative to surgical options. Options include fat freezing, laser techniques and radiofrequency-based therapies. At Dr Shane The Aesthetic Practice, we maximise the benefits with the use of the BodyFX with its suction-coupled negative pressure and dual-purpose radiofrequecy platform to breakdown fat, increase lymphatic flow and tighten skin.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is a incompletely understood condition, but proposed causes of cellulite include:

  1. Sexual variation in skin architecture – females’ vertically arranged pillars of septal support versus a male’s criscrossed pattern, leading to upward protrusion of fat through the skin.
  2. Vascular issues and inflammation – leading to shortening and hardening of the pillars of septae, as well as swelling in the compartments of fat
  3. Other hormonal causes

These lead to the protrusion of fat toward the skin surface, with dimples forming between the fat herniation.

Grades of Cellulite

Grade 0

No dimpling even when firm pressure is applied to the skin

Grade 1

Dimpling is only seen when firm pressure is applied

Grade 2

Dimpling is seen by just standing up

Grade 3

Dimpling is always present, even when lying down

Treatments Offered

Several treatment options are available, and typically work synergistically. The aim is to release the tightened septae network, reduce the size and number of fat cells, reduce any swelling in the compartments, and stimulate collagen and blend the irregularities.

Subcision

Using needles and cannulas to break the septae under the skin, subcision will allow the immediate evening of the skin dimpling. Combined with collagen stimulators like Radiesse, consistent and lasting results can be expected.

Ultherapy

Targeting the deeper layers of the skin, Ultherapy tightens and firms from within as it stimulates collagen and elastin production. This helps contour the neck and jawline, and works even better when combined with collagen stimulators like Radiesse.

Body FX

A non-invasive radiofrequency device with a suction-coupled negative pressure mechanism, the BodyFX breaks down fat, reduces oedema, increases vascular flow and tightens skin, effectively targeting most aspects of cellulite over time.

Radiesse

A strong collagen stimulator that also lends strong structural support, Radiesse is injected after subcision to provide support and stimulation to the skin.
